For the monumental Ambani wedding celebrations, amidst the opulence of the Desert High Tea, the mandate was not to blend in, it was to define a moment. When Karan Johar, a paragon of Indian fashion, approached KEFI, the brief felt instinctively aligned with our core philosophy: to reimagine heritage through a lens that is ceremonial yet contemporary.
This was not merely a commission; it was a creative dialogue on the evolution of luxury Indian jewellery.
The Brief: Contemporary Indian with a Silvery Quirk
The vision was to design a wedding themed collection that honors ethnic elegance but deconstructs it through a modern, conceptual lens.
We moved away from excess. We rejected ornamentation for ornamentation’s sake. Instead, we focused on jewellery that speaks through form, texture, and restraint. The goal was to create pieces that felt architectural, sculptural, and deeply intentional jewellery meant to be inhabited, not just worn.
The Design Language: Structure Meets Fluidity
Each bespoke piece for Karan Johar explored the delicate tension between tradition and transformation. Using sterling silver and fine gold as our canvas, we allowed molten strokes to interrupt matte surfaces, while handcrafted motifs introduced movement.
These were not accessories. They were distinct style statements.
1. The Drip Ring
Raw minimalism meets fluid opulence.
Crafted in premium sterling silver with a satin matte finish, the Drip Ring is punctuated by spontaneous strokes of molten gold resembling precious metal caught mid-motion. This piece captures the balance between control and surrender. Designed as a sculptural object, it speaks to architects, designers, and collectors who view contemporary jewellery as an extension of thought.
2. The ‘X’ Ring
Where heritage meets high design.
Handcrafted in 92.5 sterling silver and finished in a deep rhodium bath, the ‘X’
Ring draws profound inspiration from the flowing folds of the traditional Indian Pagri. Reimagined into a sleek silhouette, a delicate handcrafted chain intertwines with the sculptural X form capturing the true essence of styling a Pagri. The chain descends into a symbolic teardrop charm etched with the KEFI signature, a quiet mark of authenticity.
3. The KEFI Motif Pendant
A narrative of evolved culture.
When the theme of the Ambani wedding ceremonies was revealed, it sparked an immediate desire to showcase Indian culture without the weight of nostalgia. The KEFI Motif Pendant features a skillfully hand-carved design inspired by the traditional Indian brooch, embedded onto a distressed silver canvas. It blurs the lines between contemporary art and traditional craft, reminding us that culture is most powerful when it moves forward.
Rooted in Karigari: The Art of Slow Design
Every curve and finish across this bespoke collection is the result of intricate, handmade Karigari. Ancient techniques found a new voice through refined metalwork, rhodium finishes, and sculptural silhouettes.
